The Unquiet grave

What does the wind and rain represent?

This could be taken literally as it being a windy rainy day. Another idea is that the wind could represent his sorrows or his girl leaving the world. The rain could be more of his sorrows and tears upon her grave.I think that in most stories rain is a symbol for tears, sadness, or cold. Also I think that wind could be interpreted as someone yelling or a spirit flowing through the air.

In The unquiet Grave and cold blows the wind they both are mourning the loss of a loved one. I  The unquiet grave it is a girl who died and in cold blows the wind it is a boy that dies. Also both speak of only having one true love.

This really adds emotion to this Ballad.

  1. Tate, it is very true that rain symbolizes sadness. I think your interpretation of the rain--namely the comment about the tears on her grave--is appropriate for this poem. The tone, being very doleful, helps to indicate that meaning. Well done. Remember; since this is a poem, you need to punctuate it properly and capitalize it's title.

  2. I like how you said what the rain represented. I think that the rain is very important in the poem. How it represents sadness and and tears on the grave. Good job.
